Shipping from Florida

Florida is our southern gateway. Shore to Shore Shipping operates from a port in Florida — a separate operation from our Union, New Jersey warehouse, with its own shipment tracking, which is why our tracking page carries a Florida-only tracker alongside the main one. For cargo moving out of the southeast, and for commercial traffic that would not obviously travel north first, Florida is often the shorter route to the islands.

Two United States Operations, Not One

Most shipping companies serving the Caribbean from the United States run one origin and route everything through it. We run two: the Union, New Jersey warehouse that handles the northeast, and a port operation in Florida serving the south.

That matters if your cargo is anywhere south of the mid-Atlantic. Trucking a container north to New Jersey so it can sail south again is a cost with nothing to show for it, and the Florida operation exists so that it is not the only option.

The two run on separate tracking networks. If your shipment moved through Florida, the Florida-only tracker on our order-tracking page is the one that will find it — the main worldwide tracker will not, and that is expected rather than a fault.

Why Florida Is the Southern Gateway

Florida is closer to the Caribbean than any other part of the mainland United States, and it has the freight infrastructure and the sailing frequency that follow from that. South Florida also carries large Jamaican and Haitian communities who have been shipping home through those ports for decades.

For a shipper in Florida, Georgia or the wider southeast, that combination usually means a shorter inland leg and more sailing options than routing north would give you.

Our Union, New Jersey office and warehouse — 1071 Springfield Road — handles the northeast traffic and the barrel and box consolidation described across the rest of this site. Jamaica-bound cargo from either operation is received by our own offices in Kingston and Montego Bay, so whichever route your shipment takes, the destination end is handled by us rather than by an agent.
