US Virgin Islands vs British Virgin Islands

The Virgin Islands are two separate destinations with different customs regimes, and which one you are shipping to changes the paperwork. The US Virgin Islands — St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John — are a United States territory, so cargo moves under US customs rules. The British Virgin Islands — Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke — are a British Overseas Territory with its own separate customs administration. When you request a quote, say exactly which island so we route the shipment and its paperwork correctly.

How Shipping to the Virgin Islands Works

1. Pack and label your shipment — barrels, boxes, or freight — with the destination island clearly marked.
2. Deliver it to our Union, New Jersey office for consolidation, or ask us about pickup arrangements.
3. We consolidate your shipment into an ocean container or air freight dispatch headed for the Caribbean.
4. Your shipment arrives and clears customs at the destination island.
5. The consignee collects it, or we arrange onward delivery on request.

Customs & Duties

Every shipment entering the islands clears customs at the destination. The consignee needs the shipping documents, an accurate declaration of contents and value, and the funds to pay the assessed duty and taxes. US Virgin Islands cargo follows US customs rules; British Virgin Islands cargo follows that territory’s separate regime.
